Schnauzer (medium coat) : : Female : : Young : : Medium Learn more about the Schnauzer.
Amy was relinquished to Rompin Paws Rescue because the owner did not spend any time training Amy and does not understand the breed. We intervened to keep her out of the local, High kill shelter. Amy has been in Foster care and receiving basic training. Leash walking by harness, sit, stay and working on her socializing with other dogs. Amy is tall, though only 5 months and 21 pounds at this writing, little dogs who pester her can set her off and she will try to dominate them and hold them down. We notice with training and work, she is much better. I.E Amy needs structure, boundaries and training. An adopter will need to agree to enroll Amy in obedience classes the first week of adoption. Amy is incredibly intelligent and is a fast and willing learner, she has just never had that before. We think she will be an awesome companion, especially to anyone who really knows Schnauzers. The vet thinks Amy will grow to be 40-45 lbs. We are not sure if she is a purebred or mixed, but likely has Standard Schnauzer in her, making her a working dog. Amy will need a lot of mental and physical stimulus to be happy. This is not a leave it home, go to work for 8-10 hours and come home to dog. She will need a committed owner to train her, maybe enroll in agility training, hiking, long walks and plenty of socializing with people and other animals. Schnauzers have strong prey drives as they are used to kill rats and other varmints, so she needs a NO CAT home.
