Cookie A Manchester Terrier-Dachshund mix needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping her get a new start?
COOKIE Cookie is a sweet, loving, friendly outgoing Manchester Terrier mix who came to the rescue after being swiped by a car that fractured her leg. When no one came forth to claim her, her leg was treated, she was spayed and she is now available for adoption. Cookie needs a Nice country or suburban home where she can spend time walking trails with her people, going to the beach, having adventures, and spending time with her humans who will continue her training. Cookie is not an Apartment or City dog. Applicants with terrier experience a plus.
Cookie is currently residing with someone who is fostering her until she finds her “forever” family. Her foster care human is currently working with her on the following:
Separation Anxiety: Cookie had a small issue with this, but her foster human has worked with her and she is now able to be left home alone or with her current canine roommate for several hours without any problems at all. She is calm while waiting at home for her foster human and does not destroy anything or soil in the house. In fact, her foster human reports that she has NEVER had an accident in the house since arriving at her home.
Rushing/Crowding at the Door: Cookie had absolutely no “door manners” when she went into foster care. She will now wait at the door for the humans to go through first or she will wait and not go out the door at all if asked to “wait”. Good door manners are important to avoid a trip hazard for humans and to keep Cookie safe from getting loose. This training will need to be continued by her new family to keep everyone safe.
Prey Drive: Definitely wants to chase cats and squirrels (it’s a terrier thing). While it’s not impossible to train dogs with high prey drive, it can definitely prove to be a huge challenge. Unless her forever human is willing to put in the time and work to teach her a solid “recall” you will definitely need to keep her on a leash if she’s not contained by a secure fence.
Now for the much longer list of Cookie’s really fabulous traits and behaviors.
Cookie has been transitioned to a human-grade diet that avoids kibble in place of a healthy canine-specific feeding regimen. We will educate her adopters on proper diet and nutrition for her and her new buddies. To apply to adopt Cookie, she has a $695.00 adoption fee. All monies will be recycled to cover medical care and rescue more dogs.
