BUDDY BOY 

Buddy Boy is a sweet 15-month-old Dachshund-Chihuahua mix male (Doxie) that loves being around people. He enjoys his daily walks and hanging out on the couch with his foster humans. Doxies are semi high-energy dogs that love adventure and being on the go. Buddy will not do well in an apartment or in high stimulus situations. He does best with a  yard to run and for his humans to walk him a couple of miles a day on a trail or long country walks. Buddy is NOT an apartment dog or a city dog. He needs a lower stimulus environment and a lot of outdoor time on trails and walks.  Buddy has leash aggression toward other dogs and is scared of larger dogs so working with a trainer to curb his fears and curb his leash aggression will be required. We think he may have been attacked as a young puppy. Buddy is in foster care and his human friend is a 10-year-old boy (who is allergic to him) he does well with children.

Buddy would do great with a small breed, dog-friendly spayed female but seems very selective about his male friends. Buddy is currently 9 pounds. A small breed savvy adopter familiar with small dogs and their energy will suit him best or a young person who likes to take their dog everywhere on adventures and keep this guy happy. 

Prey Drive:  Definitely wants to chase cats and squirrels (it’s a Dachshund thing). While it’s not impossible to train dogs with high prey drive, it can definitely prove to be a huge challenge.  Unless his forever human is willing to put in the time and work to teach her a solid “recall” you will definitely need to keep him on a leash if he’s not contained by a secure fence. 

Buddy has been transitioned to a human-grade diet that avoids kibble in place of a healthy canine-specific feeding regimen. We will educate his adopters on proper diet and nutrition for him and his new buddies.

To apply to adopt Buddy, he has a $650.00 adoption fee. All monies will be recycled to cover medical care and rescue more dogs.

All Animals are current on Vaccinations, spayed or neutered if age appropriate, microchipped, dewormed, deflea if required, General wellness exams (with health certificates if brought in from out of state).
