Catahoula Leopard Dog (short coat) : : Male : : Young : : Medium Learn more about the Catahoula Leopard Dog.
Degan was found in the high desert near Inyokern, Southern California. Deagan is Approx 10 months old, neutered, Up to date on all vaccines, treated for worms, parasites and fleas. While he arrived very thin from starvation, Degan is a healthy, robust boy now. Degan came with a docked tail. Degan has had training on a ranch or farm, as he is excellent with the animals. Degan does have a strong loyalty behavior and is an excellent watchdog Degan trains very easily and already knows many commands, he just does not like all adults, so he will need obedience school so he is under good voice command by his handlers. Degan is a working Breed and wants a job. he will be an excellent companion on a ranch or farm that does not have a lot of humans freely coming and going (because of his need to protect) he would also do well with a home with a large yard as long as his owners are active and take him on long hikes and long walks or runs Degan does not bother the cats and leaves the chickens, ducks, horses and other ranch animals alone. He seems to be a watch dog as well as he barks at strangers approaching the house and is loyal to the fosters family. Degan is a willing learner which is expected of this breed. Degan is incredibly smart and he is GORGEOUS!!, What a handsome boy. he would also make an excellent hiking, biking and running partner. If you have been seeking a working breed and know the Catahoula and have the time and energy to put him through proper behavioral training and give him enough excercise, this will be an incredibly loyal dog. Don't let this boy pass u by. About the Catahoula Breed: The Catahoula is a well-muscled, deep-chested dog. The coat is short, usually in a merle, solid, or black, white and tan pattern. This breed is known for its striking blue eyes (called "glass") but Catahoulas' eyes may be any color. The average weight of a Catahoula is 55-80 pounds. (degans red brown eyes match exactly the red brown in his Merle coat) As their popularity increases, more and more Catahoulas are joining non-working homes as companion animals. However, because of their working background, Catahoulas require constant mental stimulation and hard physical exercise to be good companions. One to two hours DAILY of running or hard play is just the beginning. Also, Catahoulas must have obedience training - they are an assertive, dominant breed and can quickly take over a household if given the chance.
